Contents/synopsis: There's been more debate, more column inches, more feet of film, more miles of videotape about the Settle-Carlisle than any other railway in the country. With the line now saved and its future secure, this video looks back. Not at the politics. Not at preserved steam. Not at the well worn history of building the line. But back to the 1960s when amateur cameramen Geoff Lumb and Robin Higgins filmed along the line in all weathers-recording for posterity the last days of steam running on a line many thought would close forever. This video puts their rare footage together. Starting near Leeds and covering Keighley, Skipton, Gargrave, and Settle, the video then concentrates on the spectacular climb along England's grandest and most scenic railway. Brief modern footage contrasts the scene today (1992). From a Patriot at Bingley and a Clan at Hellifield to a Royal Scot at Ribblehead and an A1 at Dent Head, Settle to Carlisle in the 60s shows the S&C the way it was
