  • Kid Gunslinger [top]
First published in 1980 in Great Britain by Robert Hale Ltd, hardback, with dustjacket, 160pp, ISBN 0709182309.

Story: Sam Willett rides into a little cowtown to find a lynching about to happen, with the sherriff held at gunpoint and a fat man speechifying to the crowded townsfolk justifying what he was about to do. Sam, suddenly sickened by it all, creates a diversion during which he rescues the victim-a kid called Lonnie-and they burn the trail out of town. From then on the kid sticks to his rescuer like a burr to a blanket. So what can Sam do? Loners don't have partners! How do you get rid of a kid when you've just handed his life back to him? What do you say when all he wants is to be your partner? Then what do you do when the kid turns killer-is corrupted by the power of the gun-and enjoys it? What do you do when the innocent kid you saved from the rope turns out to be a monster?
